Data Engineer- Part-time/Freelance

We are seeking a skilled data engineer to help us ingest, integrate, and manage large volumes of our customer’s data from various sources. As a data engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines that connect to a variety of data sources, including third-party APIs and servers. You will also be involved in developing and maintaining APIs for data access, ingestion, and management including storing and managing time series data using databases and other data storage technologies.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering and AWS services, along with experience working with time series data, relational and non-relational databases, and programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala. The ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including data science and software development teams, is also crucial.
Responsibilities
- Work with stakeholders throughout the organization as part of a cross-functional “mission team” to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business solutions.
- Identify valuable data sources, automate collection processes, and organize the raw data.
- Learn about energy data spaces and data hubs, and their main stakeholders such as grid operators, servers, data-sharing models, security protocols, etc.
- Explore ways to enhance data ingestion and pipeline reliability.
- Undertake to preprocess of tabular and time series data.
- Run, operate, and take care of the data platform including the data connection layer, data lake, and sharing approaches (APIs and Visualization).
- Follow lean and agile principles
Qualifications
Essential
- Speak Fluent English
- Experience with data ingestion, integration, and management, particularly with time series data.
- Experience in working with third-party servers (i.e., sFTP), APIs to extract, transform, and load data into a centralized data platform.
- Experienced with database development and maintenance with a focus on NoSQL and time series databases such as MongoDB.
- Experience with Linux and basic command line tools (bash, sed, grep, git, ssh, jq)
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and experience with using relevant data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Kafka, and Hadoop in a containerized environment.
- Cloud-native in AWS (using and managing AWS services, including S3, EC2, RDS, Lambda, API Gateway, AWS Glue (ETL jobs), Server Family, and other relevant services)
- Ability to develop and maintain APIs for data access, ingestion, and management.
- Experience with data quality, data cleansing, and data governance processes.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including data science and software development teams.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with an ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.
Desirable
- Experience working in a distributed and high-volume environment
- Experience with modern analytical databases (e.g., Amazon Redshift, MongoDB, and AWS Timestream).
- Experience with data modeling techniques and query languages (e.g. SQL, pandas, and PyMongo)
